Race photos bring on a whole new meaning when you add in your favorite Disney characters and theme parks. While your phone or camera can be useful, sometimes a professional photographer can capture that magical moment you are looking for.
In the past, runDisney races utilized an outside company for race photos. In 2016, runDisney announced that they would be using the photographers Disney enthusiasts knew well – PhotoPass. For those who had been to the parks, you knew the khaki-costumed photographers are available to take photos of your family as you experience the magic. Now this continues during your runDisney race!
Throughout the course, PhotoPass photographers are positioned to snap photos of you mid-run, as well as with your favorite characters or theme park landmarks. (Tip: While at the expo, keep an eye out for course maps which may showcase where the photographers will be located.) Even better, the photos have been coming out much better and cost less overall!
During the Race
First, make sure that your race bib is clearly visible, as photos will be sorted by your bib number. Then, enjoy the race! Many of the character stops will include a photographer, as well as various points along the course. If it is still dark, you often can see the flash ahead of you – so get ready! And don’t forget about the photographers at the finish line!
After the Race
Once the race is complete, the photos usually appear fairly quickly. However, do give the system 24 hours to upload all of the photos.
Walt Disney World
If your runDisney race is at Walt Disney World, the best option is to purchase a Memory Maker package. This will allow you to get unlimited downloads of not only your race photos, but your photos inside the parks (during park touring) as well. If you purchase the Memory Maker package prior to your arrival, it cost $149, saving around $20. (Annual passholders receive downloads of all PhotoPass photos as part of your pass package.)
To view your photos, you can use your My Disney Experience account (via the app or website). You will link your photos by entering the race ID (including your bib number), which is located in the Official Race Guide or on the back of your race bib. Keep in mind that your photos will expire 45 days after the race, so don’t delay in getting them downloaded!
If your runDisney race is at Disneyland, there are a few options to purchase your photos. Disney PhotoPass+ One Day is $39 and Disney PhotoPass+ One Week is $78. These will include your race photos, as well as photos inside the park during park touring. (Annual passholders receive downloads of all PhotoPass photos as part of your pass package.)
To view your photos, you can use your Disneyland Mobile App, or view them via the website. You will link your photos by entering the race ID (including your bib number), which is located in the Official Race Guide or on the back of your race bib. Keep in mind that your photos will expire 45 days after the race, so don’t delay in getting them downloaded!
It is also worth noting that bringing along your phone or camera is still a good idea, especially for the moments when a PhotoPass photographer is not around. Many of your fellow runners are willing to snap a photo of you!
