When the long run mileage increases, hydration and fueling become even more important. However, carrying your hydration and fuel can be difficult to manage. While this may vary from person to person, Megan finally found a hydration pack that works for her.
(Note: Megan purchased the HydraQuiver on her own and received her first seat wrap as a gift. As a reminder, here is our disclosure policy.)
Admittedly, I have tried many hydration systems – a waist pack, a Camelbak, a handheld – yet nothing seemed to work quite right for me. The waist pack dug into my stomach, the Camelbak bounced around (and the bladder system is so hard to clean), and the larger handheld for the longer runs was too heavy in one hand. Therefore, I was a bit skeptical about this product.
While it took a run or two for my shoulders to get used to the extra weight, this is the first hydration system that I (almost) forgot about while running! It fits on your upper back, and can be adjusted to stay put throughout your entire run. It holds two 25 oz. bottles, which is plenty for most long runs. It also has two pockets in the front, which easily held multiple gels and supplements, as well as my phone and other accessories. There are even two more pockets on the shoulders if you really need to carry a lot of items with you.
I’ve used this product during several 15+ mile runs, in both the winter and summer months. While I did have a bit of chafing in the summer (since parts were directly on my skin), it really was breathable. (There are easy-to-follow instructions on how to clean it.) You do need to get used to hearing the “sloshing” of the bottles, as they are closer to your ears, but with headphones, I barely noticed it. This is definitely my go-to accessory for hydration, although it is worth reminding that everyone is different in what works best for them!
Another product that Orange Mud offers is actually quite smart! It is a towel that fits easily over your car seat (and stays put), keeping the seat free from sweat and dirt. It has been especially useful after the hot and humid runs in the summer. Yet, since it stays in my vehicle, it has come in handy during those other times you need to keep the seats clean!
This towel also has another interesting feature – a belt clip around the top of the towel. This allows you to position it around your waist, so you can change your clothes without the towel falling down. (To be completely honest, it’s just nice to have a towel that stays put around your waist!)
As mentioned earlier, after washing, this towel goes directly back in my vehicle. It has become a go-to gift idea for family and friends, because you never know when you need to keep your car seat clean!
