If you have been training for a big race, you know your routine. You know what gear you need during the race. You know what fuel works best. You also know what to eat the night before your big race!
Many runners choose to eat carbohydrates as their pre-race meal. It has been shown that not only does it tend to be easy on your stomach, eating carbohydrates also increases the glycogen stores in your muscles. This is just what your body needs prior to an endurance race!
So the question remains, where can you get a pre-race meal that includes the carbs we love while at Walt Disney World? Here are a few ideas for your next runDisney event!
Table Service (or Sit Down) Meals
*Note: These do require advance reservations.
Via Napoli – Located in Epcot, this authentic Italian restaurant includes pasta and wood-fired pizza options!
Tutto Italia Ristorante – Also located in Epcot, this Italian restaurant is slightly more upscale than Via Napoli.
Trattoria al Forno – Located along the Boardwalk, this casual restaurant offers an array of Italian cuisine.
Tony’s Town Square – Located in Magic Kingdom, this restaurant (themed from Lady & the Tramp) offers pasta, as well as steak and lamb.
Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano – Located in Hollywood Studios, feast on pasta, flatbreads or even steak or tuna.
Quick Service Meals
There are many food court style options available throughout Walt Disney World property. This means that there is something for every member of your family! Keep in mind that you don’t have to be staying at one of these resorts to enjoy the food court. There is nothing wrong with dropping by just to grab a quick bite to eat!
Many quick service locations at the Walt Disney World Resort hotels will offer a pasta option for runners. Be sure to inquire a day or two beforehand, so you know if it is available, or if you need to head somewhere else the night before the big race.
Here are a few favorites:
Sunshine Seasons – Located in Epcot, enjoy foods with an Asian flare, sandwiches, or oak-fired meats.
Landscapes of Flavor – Located at Disney’s Art of Animation resort, you can dine on pizza, sandwiches, stir-fry, burgers and more.
Everything Pop – Located at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, this food court has a fantastic Italian station that offers hearty and healthy dishes.
As you can see, there are plenty of ways to carboload before your big race! It’s okay to start your planning now, in fact, it’s encouraged!
Be sure your pre-race meal includes foods you have been including during training. The last thing you want to do is try something new before (or during) the race!
