For a variety of reasons, there will not be a 2019 update to Magical Miles: The Runner’s Guide to Walt Disney World. While the 2018 edition includes a lot of great information, there have been a few changes over the past year. Below are a few of the major changes to consider (as of October 2018):
One of the biggest changes is that race registration now occurs through your Disney account! Visit runDisney.com and click on “Manage Account” in the upper right corner. You will log in using your Disney account information and from there, you can register for upcoming runDisney events! runDisney included a few tips on their Facebook page, yet it is always wise to bring your patience when registering for an event. It is through this account where you make registration updates such as proof of time, etc.
Another change is that you can register other family members or friends. You can also use a Disney gift card or Disney Visa Rewards card as a form of payment.
Health & Fitness Expo
ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex has expanded to include a brand new building – The Arena! This means that the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo will continue to span across multiple buildings. Be sure to pay close attention to the expo map in the Official Event Guide to know where to head to pick up your race bib, shirts, or official race merchandise.
Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend
The April race no longer has a Dark Side theme, instead runners can choose if they plan to run as part of the Light Side or the Dark Side. It is now called the Star Wars Rival Run Weekend. The race events remain the same – Kids Races, 5K, 10K, and half marathon, along with a 10K+half marathon challenge. For an added medal, participate in the Virtual Star Wars Half Marathon along with the Star Wars Rival Run Half Marathon and earn the Kessel Run Challenge medal!
Updates to Parks & Resorts
Walt Disney World Resort continues to grow, as evidenced by construction throughout the resort. One of the most notable changes is the opening of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Head to Andy’s Backyard where you can enjoy Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania. Woody’s Lunch Box is a quick service restaurant that features breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You may even see your favorite Toy Story characters! Be sure to explore Disney Springs as many new restaurants and stores have joined the area.
As always, thank you for your continued support of The Runner’s Guide to WDW & Beyond!
